DIRECTIONS

Horn Flushing Procedure

Working over the sink… Be sure to protect all hard surfaces with a towel or soft cloth to prevent dents to the instrument. Wipe up any spills immediately rinsing thoroughly with water.

1. Pour in Horn Flush

Pour premixed Horn Flush directly into the bell of the horn.

2. Let Horn Flush Work

Swish the solution throughout horn. Tilt the horn back and forth and side-to-side working the valves and rotating the horn. WORK OVER THE SINK TO AVOID SPILLING.

Place the horn into the sink and let the solution work to 6 to 10 minutes. Vary the time with the amount of cleaning action needed for the horn. Do not allow horn to soak for more than 2 hours.

3. Install the HORN BLASTER Jet Action Flushing Tube

Attach the Horn Flusher Jet Action sprayer tube onto the faucet connector and then to sink faucet in your work area.  A multi type adapter is included.  This adapter will allow the Horn Flusher to work on most standard type faucets.  If there are any unusual circumstances or the adapter does not fit your particular faucet, contact your local hardware store, plumbing supply house or plumber to assist in installing the correct adapter. You must use the Horn Blaster sprayer in order to achieve proper cleaning effectiveness.

4. Rinse out the Inside of the Horn

ALL INSTRUMENTS

Insert the flusher tube into the horn from the bell end until the tube reaches the valve area. Turn on the water. The water will run through the horn and into the sink. Work the valves to run the water through all of the tubing.  The water coming out of the horn may be discolored. Continue to run the water through the horn until the water comes out clear. (TECH. TIP: Use cold water first, press the valves, change to warm water, and press the valves again, you can confirm that the flushing action is reaching all of the tubing.  Just feel the temperature changes of the valve tubing.)  With the water still running gradually pull the flusher tube out of the horn.  Be sure to turn off the water before removing the flusher tube from the horn.  Insert the horn flusher into the mouthpiece end of the horn and back flush the horn.  (Multiple flushing may be necessary on very dirty horns) If HORN FLUSH solution is not thoroughly rinsed from inside the tubing, minor eye or nasal discomfort or may result.

TROMBONES: Pump in the Horn Flush solution. Let it work for 6 to 10 minutes, Flush out the trombone. Remove the slide, and pump an additional 1-2oz. of Horn Flush into the slide. Agitate the slide in and out to coat both inner and outer races. Flush out the slide.   NOTE: USE THE LARGE FLUSHER TUBE Product # (s tube 2) FOR TROMBONES AND LARGE INSTRUMENTS

FRENCH HORNS,

The focus for using the solution should be on the lead pipe (mouthpiece) area up to the valves. The balance of the tubing usually needs plain rinsing. With French Horns you should remove the slides around the valve area and pour the Horn Flush solution directly into the rotor valves assembly. Work the valves to assure a good coating and flush the entire horn with the Horn Blaster sprayer. Remember: You can be as frugal as needed with Horn Flush.

BARITONE, and TUBA

The low brass tube ( s tube2 ) should be used. Use the Horn Flush solution in the lead pipe and valve area. Individual slides can be flushed as needed by pouring the solution directly into the slide, soaking and then rinsing the tubing with water.  The Horn Blaster sprayer tube fits directly onto a garden hose for those in favor of flushing the horn in the outdoors.

NOTE: with very dirty horns and of heavy buildup you may need to use a brush in addition to the sprayer. This is a normal occurrence and in no way harms the horn.

5. Disassemble the Horn

If the horn is very dirty or there is excessive residue buildup, remove the slide tubes & playing valves.  Soak the parts in a bowl of Horn Flush solution, and brush the inside of the tubing clean.

6. Reassemble the Horn

Check all water key corks for wear and replace if necessary.

Oil the playing valves with any fine quality valve oil.

Wipe down the outside of the horn using Horn Flush Solution, then polish.  YOU’RE DONE!   Your horn is ready to play.

Additional Notes HORN FLUSH Solution may cause slight discomfort to the eyes or nasal passages if not rinsed out properly. You must use the Horn Blaster flushing tube in order to achieve the maximum cleaning effectiveness.

The standard Jet Action Flusher is for use on Trumpets, F-Horns, Cornets and other small bore instruments.   (Item # HFS-1)

For Trombones, Baritone, Tubas and other large bore instruments use the Large Jet action flusher (Item #  s tube 2)

If the adapter does not work on your faucet contact your local hardware store or plumbing supply for the correct adapter.
